The composition of a solo concerto has been on Thomas Modrej’s mind for a long time. However, one aspect that always seemed important to him in this project was the balance between soloist and orchestra. In almost every work of a similar structure, the soloist dominates the orchestral setting and all too often lapses into virtuosity. Virtuosity should not be an end in itself, but should be used for purely aesthetic reasons. He has attempted to realise these ideas in this concerto for trumpet and orchestra.
