Chi-hin Leung

Utmost Attack (Tuba quartet)

Chi-hin Leung was born in Hong Kong and studied music at The University of Hong Kong, The HK Institute of Education and The HK Academy for Performing Arts, specializing in composition and electronic music. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in musical composition at The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Professor Victor Chan. His many awards include First Prize in the HK Handbell Festival Composition Contest (2007), the Artistic Excellence Award in Composition (2005–2008), the Artistic Excellence Award in Performance and the Year Prize of Academic Excellence for music (2008) and Second Prize at New Generation (2009). He is a director of the HK Composers’ Guild, which recently awarded him a scholarship, and the Hong Kong Association for Music Educators.

Leung’s compositions, which have been published in Hong Kong, the USA, Germany and now the UK, reflect the diverse cultural background of his native city, mixing both Eastern and Western elements and exploring new dimensions of timbre and texture. As well as being performed locally, his works have featured in numerous international music festivals, including the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM), the International Electronic Music Week (EMW), the International Handbell Symposium, and the International Society for Music Education (ISME).
