Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

| Symphony No. 39 in E flat major K543, arr. for three flutes by Richard Carte, ed. Christopher Hogwood. ... The trio is enormous fun to play, and is incalculably more interesting than the Kuhlau trios which we have all played so much. ... A definite hit we think. read full review |
| ... For players today, the arrangement is idiomatic and satisfying to play - although, of course by no means attempting to match the colour and scope of an orchestra. ... the historical information in the Introduction makes interesting and enlightening reading. This is a useful addition to the flute trio repertory. read full review |

Antonio Vivaldi
|
|
| Concerto in D major RV244 for violin solo, strings and continuo, ed. Rebecca Kan. ... The scholarly introduction of 12 pages, in both English and German, sets out in its opening sentence the rationale for this new edition - Vivaldi composed two alternative slow movements, both of which are here published together. The score itself is admirably presented and accurate ... the piece would be quite suitable for performance by beginner strings. read full review |

The editorial introduction by Michael Elphinstone is a mine of information and the editing is exemplary... quintessentially classical in musical language, form and layout, idiomatically written and ideal as music for entertainment. read full review |

| Symphony No. 40 in G minor K550, arr. Muzio Clementi for flute, violin, cello and piano, ed. Christopher Hogwood. ... This is a very welcome and fascinating addition to Edition HH's enterprising '@MOZART' series ... at last, a scholarly performing edition ... As we've come to expect from Edition HH, there are excellent introductory notes by Hogwood, including a translation into German and very helpful and relevant suggestions for metronome marking, guidance on the handling of repeats, and a facsimile of the first page of Clementi's manuscript. Once again, congratulations to the publisher for continuing to issue first-rate editions of neglected works which combine genuine historical significance with a range of possible practical applications. read full review |
