Jeremy Arden was moved to write his Songs from Hell in response to the persistent violence and intolerance that has erupted around the world in recent times. The texts are freely adapted from the Holocaust poems of Dan Pagis and from Buddhist writings, both sources perfectly capturing various aspects of the hell that humans create when consumed by hate. Composed in 2024 and comprising four brief songs, the work was first performed on 5 October in Oxford.
